+ Heels vs Flats (07/12/2011 - 12:39:25)
Heels vs Flats
The debate continues

Many people have their own opinions about wearing heels. It is a question of style and preference. I
get questioned all the time where I heels as I am tall already. Looking around
the wonderful city of London I see many tall women stomping around in flat
shoes, some looking like they are wearing boats on their feet. Don’t get me
wrong there are some beautiful large boats I have seen in the Marina, like I
said ‘large boats’. Why, it can be difficult, at times near impossible to buy
fashionable shoes be it heels or flats in a UK size 9 and above. The selection
available are often ugly, manly looking and definitely not pretty. Many shops here in London think because a
woman who has ‘slightly above average feet’ and wears a size 9 or above she
wants to wear ugly shoes.
Now I am a lady (all 6ft, well 5ft 12 of me) who loves heels
– the higher the better. And I do like comfort too, which rarely come with high
heels. If you know the secret to get
good insoles or comfortable shoes in a size 9 just let me know. I will also confess that I am going to get a
pair of ballerinas too! Why? Because I like cute shoes and the proper ballerina
shoes from French Sole are cute and don’t make your feet look huge.
I recently took a trip to Selfridges (London) shoe
department and was in shoe heaven! Shoes,
shoes, shoes galore for every purse. Everything from a selection from Top Shop through
to top designers like Christian Louboutin
and much more. Holding a pair of Christian Louboutin’s http://www.christianlouboutin.com I
was whisked away to a red carpet event (in my dreams), the Swarovski crystals,
red soles and those beautiful 6 inch (plus) heels – a woman’s dreams. His shoes are beautiful and well crafted. They are super high and does what is says on
the tin. Alas all I could do was dream
as they were not available in my size.
This got me wondering, there are
many women in Hollywood who have a UK size 9 and above who are seen wearing
beautiful crafted shoes. That means that there are shoe manufactures who make
beautiful large shoes.
I’ve read that a British Soul Singer who has ‘slightly above
average feet’ – UK size 9 gets her shoes from Italy. Now why can’t the high
street shops in London and the UK stock a size 9, and I mean ‘nice fashionable
shoes’ at reasonable prices.
Yes, I know there are specialist shops sell a UK size 9 and
above but many are online with very few on the high street. New Look sells
shoes in a size 9 www.newlook.com. Many are bang on trend but I am afraid to say
they are very high, don’t get me wrong I love my high heels but some are over 5
inches. They is another high street shop who used to do fashionable, leather
and cute shoes. I remember buying
several pairs of wedges. Alas their selection and quality has deteriorated and
now they are selling plastic shoes at the same price as leather. They won’t be getting my business any more,
and it is not just me as a couple of friends have also stopped gracing them
with their hard earned cash too.
Now I am going to be a converter to flat/ballerina
shoes. I will also confess that I am
going to get a pair of ballerinas too! Why? Because I like cute shoes and the
proper ballerina shoes from French Sole are cute and don’t make your boxes as
they are made very well. I see many women now in London rushing around town in
their flat shoes with a pair of high heels in their bag. Saving their feet from
the hard streets of London and also being able to rub for the tube, train and
the bus. Getting to work, changing into heels and then transforming themselves
into tall eloquent statuesque women.
My cry/plea is to UK high street shops to stock UK size 9/43
(and I mean pretty shoes too). There are
many, many women who have ‘slightly above average feet’ and just want to buy good
quality decent shoes at high street prices.
