Getting in right from the inside out

A girl's best friend is the correct fitting Bra

As a Bra Fitting Model I have fitted for a well known high street shop and currently model for a well known sports company.

Many women underestimate the importance of good lingerie. Wearing the correct size can literally change your shape.

“Women who wear the wrong kind of bra could be damaging their breasts, researchers have warned.”

"And many other women are unaware that they are wearing a badly-fitting bra or unknowingly wear the wrong bra size because they are routinely being sold ill-fitting bras”.

Bra-fitting advice also varies considerably, when you find  a bra manufacturer you like and the bra fits well, stick with them BUT remember to get measured at least once a year.  This important if your weight fluctuates, your body changes or pregnant. Further more, the shape, size, symmetry, and spacing of women's breasts vary considerably, affecting the bra and cup size.

Matching bras and panties
This is an area that many women choose to ignore.                                       Personally, matching or same colour is very important. Many don’t think it is important to have matching bra and knickers same style or colour. During a conversation with some friends one piped and said “I oh my boyfriend doesn’t care if it matches, it comes off anyway”.  My comment was “You are dating the wrong guy”.  Ladies you will be surprised, if you don’t know already men do like sexy underwear!

It’s not all about your partner.  Wear if for yourself. Matching underwear can make you feel so incredibly sexy.  Personally, I always feel so much more put together and feminine when I’m wearing matching underwear.

A few handy tips

BRAS
Ok ladies I will be very FRANK with you….At least 80% of women don’t wear the  correct fitting bra. I see too many women with four boobs instead of two.  The extra two are poking out over the top of the bra. And sometimes even at the sides.  It is not only the full busted ladies that have extra spillage this also goes for women who are small busted. What ever size you are, there is so much choice available on the high street and the internet.

Be aware that manufacturers vary in size, this is still no excuse!!! There are two types of underwear- Every day (t-shirt bras, plain bras) and of course the evening of sometimes called bedroom lingerie.

Everyday bras/T-shirt bras give you a smooth look under your garments.  Slightly padded or moulded are the best and are available in larger sizes too.

If you are bulging out of the side or top or even both, then its time to ditch the old bra and get some new ones.  Lumps and bumps in a too small bra are not appealing and make your clothes look terrible.

It has been noted by the fashion industry and a recent discussion on the radio that large size bras much more expensive.  I do agree, but it is important if you are large busted to wear the correct fitting bra.  Many stores like Debenhams have regular sales; this is the time to buy.  I recommend their Gorgeous range which includes smooth/t-shirt bras

  • Get stuck on the cup and not the stuck on the number  - in other words don’t worry it’s not about the numbers what really matters is the fit.  For example one woman I know was wearing a 36d when should have been wearing a 32e.
  • Wearing the right size bra everything looks better. Clothes feel better and you look better.  Breast should be lifted in the correct fitting bra especially if you are on the larger size.
  • Right bra – you’ll loose weight and you will see your waist again and your feet.
  • If you haven’t had a bra fitting for at least a year, I suggest going to a reputable shop and getting a fitting.  Bra fitting is normally free and the results are fantastic -  an improved shape (not to mention comfort) by lifting you up and creating a better waistline too.

I see many women with the back of their bras riding up their back, above their shoulder blades.  This is because you need a tighter band width, if you are getting lumps under your clothes at the top of the bra then you need a bigger cup size.

Sport’s Bras
Sports bras are not the prettiest things in town, but nor are droopy boobs. Sports bras are essential if you are exercising - never put on your trainers without also putting on your sports bra. I see too many women jiggling and with four boobs in the gym doing cardiovascular exercises.  I even saw a woman wearing ‘two normal’ bras, one over the other!!

They are now available in a variety of colours and styles depending on the impact level of the exercise you wish to participate in. Just like a ‘normal’ bra they go through rigorous testing, fittings etc.

If you are doing cardiovascular – any type of exercise which raises your heart rate, you need to wear a proper fitting sports bra.  Boobs move doing exercise, Even if you are an A cup, your breasts move nearly half a centimetre away from the body during impact exercise! Just imagine if you are bigger than an A, what happens.

KNICKERS

The correct knickers
I have heard stories of women complaining that because they are curvy and have rounder shaped bottoms they have problems buying knickers that fit properly.  I suggest try wearing thongs or boy shorts.  It is so unsightly to see women whose pants are in an unsightly position and/or they are attempting to adjust them. The Visible Panty Line (VPL) can ruin an outfit.

Many women believe that if they are wearing white clothes then they must wear white underwear.  This is definitely a big no-no. Flesh coloured underwear is your best friend this summer not least because many of the on trend clothes are peach, and pale nude.  If you are dark skin avoid white too. Many stores are now selling flesh colour underwear for darker skins. The worse sight I have seen is white lace knickers/thong worn under white linen trousers – crimes against fashion.

Don’t be afraid to wear body sculpting garments, they create smooth lines especially under that special look.  Not only will your clothes like lump free but you gain some extra confidence. I recommend the Spanx range and have recently tried the Spanx Slip
